Mujingli: The Traditional Chinese Medicine with Healing Properties

Mujingli, a traditional Chinese medicine, is the liquid juice that flows out of the stem of the plant Mujing after being burned. It is distributed in East China, as well as Hebei, Hunan, Guangdong, Sichuan, Guizhou, and other regions. It has the effects of dispelling wind and heat, promoting blood circulation through the meridians, and regulating qi. It is used for symptoms such as stroke-induced speechlessness, phlegm-heat-induced epilepsy, dizziness, vertigo, sore throat, and dysentery caused by heat.

  ①Treatment for stroke-induced speechlessness: Take Mujingli, one liter per dose. (From "Fan Wang Fang")

  [Original botanical characteristics of Mujingli]

  Mujing is a deciduous shrub or small tree, with a height of 1-5 meters. It has many branches and a fragrant smell. The small branches are quadrangular, green, and covered with coarse hairs. The old branches are brown and round.

  The leaves are palmate compound, opposite, with 5 leaflets, occasionally 3, with the largest one in the middle. The leaflets of Mujing are lanceolate or elliptic-lanceolate, with a wedge-shaped base, coarsely serrated edges, gradually pointed tips, green on the surface, pale green on the back, and usually covered with soft hairs.

  The inflorescence is a cone-shaped panicle, about 10-20cm long. The calyx is bell-shaped with 5 tooth-like lobes at the apex. The corolla is pale purple, with 5 lobes at the apex, and bilabiate-shaped. The fruit of Mujing is spherical and black. It flowers and bears fruit from July to October.
