No discomfort in any part of the body is a small problem, and timely medical treatment is important. It is key to treat the symptoms accurately. Do you know how to distinguish between stomach pain and abdominal pain? Traditional Chinese medicine teaches you how to identify foods that are good for the stomach.

[How to distinguish between stomach pain and abdominal pain]

If there is pain in the area just below the xiphoid process (the lower part of the sternum), it is stomach pain or duodenal ulcer pain. The location of the pain for duodenal pain is below the painful area, and overall it is in the upper abdomen.

The point where the right anterior superior iliac spine (the upper edge of the large bone under the right waist that feels like a large piece) intersects with one-third of the outer side of the line connecting the umbilicus is called McBurney's point. If there is rebound pain or severe pain when pressing this point, it is appendicitis.

Liver area pain refers to pain in the right rib area or below the xiphoid process (the lower end of the sternum). The pain is intermittent or continuous dull or stabbing pain. Within a certain period of time before the pain, the patient may feel discomfort in the upper right abdomen. The pain can be mild or severe, or it can resolve on its own in a short period of time.

The pain in the gallbladder area is similar to that in the liver area, both are pain in the upper right abdomen, and it needs to be differentiated after examination in the hospital.

Pain on the left side corresponding to the liver and gallbladder area is considered to be pain in the spleen or stomach.

Pain in the lower abdomen is mostly intestinal pain, which is caused by smooth muscle spasms in the intestines and is commonly known as abdominal pain.

  [Causes of poor gastrointestinal health]

  1. Poor dietary habits

Heavy taste and long-term consumption of stimulating foods such as raw and spicy foods can also burden the intestines and stomach, leading to poor gastrointestinal health. In addition, smoking and excessive drinking can lower the body's immunity and cause damage to the functions of the intestines and stomach, resulting in poor gastrointestinal health.

  2. Neglecting food hygiene

Food hygiene is also related to the health of the intestines and stomach. If people do not pay attention to food hygiene usually, it can lead to the growth of bacteria, affecting the functions of the intestines and stomach, causing gastrointestinal diseases and resulting in poor gastrointestinal health.

  3. High mental stress

Excessive stress from studying or working can cause hormonal imbalance and mental tension. Being under long-term stress can affect people's appetite, which is not conducive to the absorption of food by the intestines and stomach, resulting in poor gastrointestinal health. Why does the stomach and abdomen hurt together?

  4. Effects of medication

Taking certain medications can also cause poor gastrointestinal health. There is a saying that all medicine is poison, and many medications produce some side effects to a greater or lesser extent, which can have an impact on other aspects of the body. For example, long-term use of drugs that stimulate the gastrointestinal mucosa can cause damage to the intestines and stomach, impair the regulatory function of the intestines and stomach, and result in poor gastrointestinal health.
