Sugar Mustard is an annual or biennial herb, 30-60 cm tall, densely covered in appressed 2-forked hairs;

The stem is erect, unbranched or with branches at the upper part, and with ridges.

The leaves are lanceolate or long elliptic-linear, the basal leaves are 5-15 cm long, 5-20 mm wide, with acute tips, gradually narrowing at the base, entire margins, and covered with 2-forked hairs on both sides;

The petioles are 1.5-2 cm long; upper leaves have short petioles or no petioles, and the base is near-amplexicaul, with wavy teeth or nearly entire margins.

The inflorescence is corymbose, with many flowers; sepals are long and elliptic, 5-7 mm long, densely covered in 2-forked hairs, with white membranous margins;

The petals are orange-yellow, lanceolate in shape, 10-14 mm long, with fine veins, rounded at the tips, and with long claws at the base; stamens are 6, almost equal in length.

The siliques are linear, 4.5-8.5 cm long, about 1 mm wide, slightly tetragonal, with a style about 1 mm long, and the style has 2 lobes, with raised midribs on the lobes; pedicels are 5-7 mm long, obliquely spreading upwards.

There is 1 row of seeds per locule, they are oblong, laterally compressed, 1-1.5 mm long, and dark reddish-brown. The flowering period is from June to August, and the fruiting period is from July to September.
