Golden Cow: A Powerful Herb for Pain Relief and Healing

Golden cow is the root or branches and leaves of the plant Houttuynia cordata, which belongs to the family of Yunnan herbs. It has a slight fragrance, bitter and spicy taste, and numbing sensation. The ones with thick root bark and strong aroma are considered the best. It has the effects of dispelling wind, promoting blood circulation, reducing swelling and relieving pain. It is commonly used to treat rheumatism, sore throat, scrofula, stomach pain, toothache, bruises, burns, etc.

  1. Dispelling Wind and Promoting Blood Circulation

  When wind, cold, and dampness pathogens accumulate and block the meridians, it can cause soreness and numbness in the limbs, difficulty in bending and stretching, and the development of bi syndrome.

  Golden cow has a slightly warm and spicy nature, which can dispel wind and promote blood circulation. Its bitterness can dry dampness and clear obstructions, with a specific effect of dispelling wind and promoting blood circulation, and relieving pain.

  2. Dispersing Stagnation and Reducing Swelling

  Golden cow has a dispersing and activating effect, promoting blood circulation and meridian flow. Therefore, it is effective in treating bruises, sprains, and burns.

  3. Promoting Qi Circulation and Relieving Pain

  Golden cow has a warm and spicy nature, which can disperse and promote the flow of Qi, and warm up the meridians. It can relieve pain by expelling cold and dispersing wind. It is effective in treating stomach pain and toothache.

  4. Diuretic and Reducing Swelling

  Golden cow has a slightly warm and bitter nature, which can disperse wind and cold from the lungs and promote water circulation.   1. Analgesic

  Its preparations have analgesic effects. It can be used alone to treat neuralgia, headache, rheumatic pain, stomach cramps, etc.

  2. Local Anesthesia

  It can be used as a surface anesthetic instead of chloroethane.

  3. Antibacterial

  The 1:1 alcohol extract of Houttuynia cordata root has inhibitory effects on hemolytic streptococcus and Staphylococcus aureus.

  4. Anti-cancer

  The LD50 data of Houttuynia cordata alkaloids obtained from sarcoma 180 ascites cancer cell culture showed that it has anti-cancer activity. In experiments on mice, the total alkaloids showed inhibitory effects on Ehrlich ascites carcinoma.

  [Clinical Applications of Golden Cow]

  1. Pain Relief

  Golden cow can be injected intramuscularly, with a dose of 2ml each time (equivalent to 3g of the root), 1-2 times daily. It has been used to treat more than 500 cases of neuralgia, headache, rheumatic pain, and gastrointestinal pain, with pain relief occurring within 5-10 minutes after administration.

  Golden cow injection can also be administered intramuscularly, with a dose of 1ml each time (containing 100mg of active ingredients), once daily. It has been used to treat 189 cases of rheumatoid arthritis and similar conditions, with an effective rate of over 90%. Most patients showed improvement within 5-6 days of treatment.

  2. Anesthesia

  Golden cow can be made into a surface anesthetic and used for dental procedures. Surgery can be performed 1-2 minutes after local application. It has been used for tooth extraction in 101 cases (84 patients), with 98 cases being painless, and for incision of gum abscess in 18 cases, with 14 cases being painless.

  3. Treatment of Ulcer Disease

  Houttuynia cordata pills (made from the bark of Houttuynia cordata and golden cow, each pill weighing 10g) can be taken orally, with one pill taken 3 times a day. Each treatment course lasts for 20-25 days, until the ulcer is healed or scarred.

  A total of 60 cases of various ulcers were treated, with 47 cases (78.3%) showing ulcer healing and 13 cases (21.7%) showing no change or scar formation.
