【Methods of treating empyema with Da Wei Yao】

Da Wei Yao fresh whole grass 100g. Decoct and mix with honey for oral administration; or crush and squeeze 100-200g of fresh whole grass, mix with honey for oral administration.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that Da Wei Yao has the effects of clearing heat, detoxifying, and diuresis. It is used for pneumonia, empyema, sore throat, oral ulcers, bladder stones, boils, and other conditions.

【Pharmacological effects of Da Wei Yao】

1. Anti-cancer effect

The anti-cancer active components isolated from Da Wei Yao are Da Wei Yao alkaloids and Da Wei Yao alkaloid N-oxide. Da Wei Yao alkaloids have a 16-fold effect on mouse leukemia P388.

2. Effects on smooth muscle

The water extract of the root can increase the tension of the isolated rabbit duodenum, but has no significant effect on the isolated guinea pig ileum; the alcohol extract inhibits both; both have significant excitatory effects on the isolated rat uterus. Both the water extract and the alcohol extract have oxytocin-like effects.


3. Other effects

The water extract of the root can reduce the blood pressure when intravenously injected into anesthetized cats, accompanied by respiratory excitement; it has an inhibitory effect on the isolated toad heart; the alcohol extract has no effect. Intravenous injection of Da Wei Yao alkaloid N-oxide at a dose of 1500mg/kg in dogs can increase heart rate, decrease left ventricular end-diastolic pressure and cardiac output, slightly reduce pulmonary vascular resistance, and slightly increase systemic vascular resistance.

The mustard alkaloid isolated from the seeds of Da Wei Yao has a ganglionic blocking effect, but it has been found to have no effect on the central nervous system in terms of excitatory or neuromuscular junction blocking effects, and does not shorten the sleep time of mice induced by pentobarbital sodium.

1. Treatment of pneumonia, lung abscess, empyema: Da Wei Yao fresh whole grass 100g. Decoct and mix with honey for oral administration; or crush and squeeze 100-200g of fresh whole grass, mix with honey for oral administration.

2. Treatment of carbuncle and abdominal pain: Da Wei Yao fresh whole grass 50-100g. Decoct and take orally.

3. Treatment of testicular swelling and pain: Da Wei Yao fresh root 100g. Decoct with water and take orally.

4. Treatment of infantile convulsions: Da Wei Yao dried root 12g, dried Huangdancao 9g. Add a little salt, stew with water and take orally.

5. Treatment of oral ulcers: Crush and squeeze fresh leaves of Da Wei Yao, and rinse the mouth with the juice 4-6 times a day.
