【The Legend of the Name of Blood-filled Herb】

Blood-filled herb, also known as bone-connecting herb, has the effect of promoting blood circulation and relieving pain, relaxing tendons and activating collaterals. Soaking it in alcohol can strengthen tendons and bones, treat rheumatism and bone pain, and use the leaves to treat bruises and bone fractures.

There is a rather shocking legend about the origin of the name bone-connecting herb: In the tropical rainforest of Yunnan, a Hani tribe old Chinese doctor was collecting medicinal herbs. When he was resting under a big tree, a large centipede crawled over.

The old Chinese doctor chopped it into two pieces with a knife, and the two halves of the centipede struggled on the ground. But soon, another centipede came and brought a green leaf, placing it at the injured centipede's severed part.

Before long, the two halves of the centipede connected and slowly crawled into the grass. Therefore, the old Chinese doctor developed and utilized the bone-connecting herb...

A piece of bone-connecting herb leaf made the centipede reconnect its severed body and revive with full blood, which is truly incredible. However, it is true that bone-connecting herb has the effects of treating rheumatism, bone injuries, and bone healing.

【Identification of Blood-filled Herb】

The stem of blood-filled herb is cylindrical, with a diameter of 0.3-1.5cm, and the surface is grayish green to greenish brown, hard and brittle. The stem has multiple longitudinal ridges, and the ridge groove is covered with yellowish brown to rusty short hairs, with almost no hairs on the ridges. The outer layer of the stem is hard and woody; the marrow is wide and white, loose and spongy, slightly shiny, with scattered brownish red spots, mostly on the outer side of the marrow.

Odd-pinnate compound leaves are opposite, with small leaflets ranging from greenish brown to deep green, with short petioles and covered with short hairs. The leaflets are often wrinkled and broken. When fully unfolded, they are lanceolate, 5-15cm long, 2-4cm wide, and have serrated edges.

Occasionally, flowers can be seen. The terminal inflorescence is a conical panicle, with small, light yellow or white flowers. The scent is slightly fragrant; the taste is mild and slightly astringent. The color of the stem surface, longitudinal ridges and hair conditions, wide marrow, and scattered brownish red spots are the most characteristic identification points.
