Chinese medicine believes that Dao Sheng Gen has the effects of promoting blood circulation, stopping bleeding, dispelling wind and dampness. It is commonly used for bruises, fractures, irregular menstruation, vomiting blood, epistaxis, rheumatism, edema, difficulty urinating, and scrofula.
1. "Caomu Bianfang": "It treats scrofula, tears in the eyes, post-smallpox corneal opacity, dispels wind and dampness, and treats dog bites."
2. "Chongqing Herbal Medicine": "It promotes qi circulation, nourishes kidney water. It treats vomiting blood from overexertion, irregular menstruation, itchy skin, and scrofula."

【Characteristics】
It is a shrub that grows 1-3m tall. The stem is erect or curved in an arch shape, reddish-brown, with hooked flat thorns. Odd-pinnate compound leaves; petioles are 2-4cm long, with scattered small thorns;
the stipules are linear; there are 5-7 leaflets; the terminal leaflet has a stalk 1-2cm long, and the lateral leaflets are almost stalkless; leaf blades are ovate, elliptic, or rhombic-ovate, 3-6cm long and 1.5-4cm wide;
the apex is sharply pointed, the base is broadly wedge-shaped or nearly round, the margin has irregular conical sawtooth or dentate coarse sawtooth, the lower surface is grayish-green, and there are soft hairs or pubescence along the veins.
The umbel inflorescence is terminal or axillary; the peduncles and pedicels are pubescent; the flowers are pink, with a diameter of 8-10mm; the sepals are lanceolate-ovate, with hairs on the outside. The aggregate fruit is ovoid, with a diameter of 5mm, and red. It flowers from April to June and fruits from June to August.
【Habitat Distribution】
Dao Sheng Gen grows on mountain slopes, valleys, riversides, and roadsides at altitudes of 100-1700m. It is distributed in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Fujian, Shaanxi, Gansu, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Xinjiang, and other regions.
