Morphology:

Biluozi is a tall tree that can reach up to 7 meters in height. The buds, young branches, back of the leaves, and inflorescences are all covered with long hairs. The leaves are alternate; leaf stalks are 1.5-4cm long; leaf blades are inverted lanceolate or narrow obovate, 8-25cm long, 2.5-4.5cm wide, gradually pointed or tapering, gradually narrowing at the base, entire or with several pointed serrations above the middle, and covered with rust-colored soft hairs on the back; 9-18 lateral veins on each side; leathery. The flowers are bisexual, arranged in a terminal conical inflorescence with 3 edges on the main axis; 5 or 4 sepals, ovate or nearly circular, with marginal hairs; 5 petals, white, with 3 nearly circular outer petals measuring 2-2.5mm in diameter and 2 inner petals about half the length of the stamens divided into 2; filaments with several marginal hairs; development of stamens 1.2-1.5mm long; ovary without hairs. The fruit is spherical, with a diameter of 5-8mm; the core is spherical, slightly slanted, with raised fine reticulations. It flowers in summer and fruits in September-October.

Chemical composition: The bark contains 16.0% tannin. The leaves contain 5.7% tannin.
