Can Surgery Cure Chronic Gastritis?

January 22, 2024

Feeling uncomfortable in the stomach, no matter how good the food is, is useless. Various nutrients cannot be absorbed, and even good supplements are ineffective. Having chronic gastritis is very common in daily life. Some severe chronic gastritis patients feel that medication is too slow and they want to treat their condition with surgery. So, can surgery cure chronic gastritis?

Can surgery cure chronic gastritis?

There are many types of stomach diseases, such as gastritis, gastric ulcers, gastric cancer, and gastric bleeding, etc. Actually, not all cases of chronic gastritis require surgery. In general, chronic gastritis can be cured, but it depends on the specific treatment. The main conditions that require surgery are large ulcers and tumors.

However, the treatment for peptic ulcers is already quite mature, and general ulcers do not need surgical treatment. Surgery is only needed in the following conditions: uncontrolled bleeding by medication, perforation, scar-induced pyloric obstruction, refractory ulcers that do not respond to drug treatment, highly suspected cancerous transformation.

The correct treatment method, of course, is effective. It is not advisable to blindly believe in folk remedies and self-medicate with random drugs.

Medication for chronic gastritis

Chronic gastritis refers to chronic inflammation of the gastric mucosa caused by different causes. The most common types are chronic superficial gastritis and chronic atrophic gastritis. The main clinical manifestations are loss of appetite, discomfort and dull pain in the upper abdomen, belching, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, etc. The course of the disease is slow, recurrent, and difficult to heal.

① For those with low or absent gastric acid, they can take 1% dilute hydrochloric acid and pepsin preparation.

② For those with high gastric acid, they can take aluminum hydroxide gel, gastric mucosal protective agents, and metformin.

③ Antibiotics: Low or absent gastric acid can often lead to bacterial overgrowth in the stomach, which is somewhat related to the development of this disease. Antibiotics that are not easily absorbed can be taken orally in the short term, such as loperamide, oxytetracycline, erythromycin, etc.

④ During pain attacks, atropine, papaverine, and scopolamine preparations can be taken.

⑤ Chinese patent medicines such as Xiang Sha Yang Wei Wan (Aromatic Poria Pill to Nourish the Stomach), Chen Xiang Lu (Chen Xiang Herbal Essence), and Hou Gu Jun Pian (Monkey Mushroom Slice) are effective in improving abdominal pain, bloating, belching, nausea, and vomiting.

Iron supplements can be given to those with iron-deficiency anemia; vitamin B12 can be injected for pernicious anemia.

Dietary therapy for stomach diseases

1. Soaked jujube water

Roast the jujubes until crispy, preferably. After each meal of the day, soak three to four jujubes in a cup of boiling water until the water turns red, and drink it when the jujubes are not too sweet.

2. Fried ginger slices for treating stomach diseases

Wash the fresh ginger, cut it into thin slices, roll them in powdered white sugar, and then put them in a hot oil pan until the ginger slices turn dark. Flip them lightly and fry them again. Take two slices each time and eat them while hot before meals.

Repeat this two to three times a day, and you will see results in about ten days. The root cause can be eliminated in about half a month.

3. Fried sugar with peaches

Peel and chop seven walnuts and put them in an iron pan. Stir-fry until light yellow, then add one portion (350g divided into 12 portions) of brown sugar. Stir-fry a few more times and remove from the heat. Eat it slowly while still hot on an empty stomach every morning, and wait for half an hour before eating or drinking. Continue for 12 days without interruption.

4. Honey

First, pour 0.5kg of honey into a bowl. Heat 125-150g of peanut oil in a pan until the foam disappears. Then pour the oil into the bowl of honey. Take a spoonful 20-30 minutes before meals, once in the morning and once in the evening.

For critically ill patients, you can increase the dosage. This method is effective for gastritis, gastric ulcers, and duodenal ulcers.

Note: Patients are advised to quit smoking and drinking. Spicy foods can cause significant damage to the stomach and should be avoided.

5. Radish water

Wash and chop fresh heart-shaped radishes (green skin and red flesh). Boil them and add some sugar. Drink it while hot.
