  Glutinous rice vine grows in shady and moist areas such as valleys and streamsides. It is distributed in provinces such as Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Hunan, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangdong, and Guangxi. It is mainly produced in Sichuan, Guizhou, Zhejiang, and other regions.

  Seed propagation

  In Sichuan, seeds are sown from March to April. After preparing the soil, create 1.3m-wide beds and dig holes with a row spacing of about 26cm and a depth of about 7cm. The holes should be flat at the bottom. After applying livestock manure, use 7.5kg of seeds per 1 hectare and mix them with wood ash and livestock manure before sowing.

  Field management

  When the seedlings reach a height of 7-10cm, thin and replant them, with 4-5 seedlings per hole. Remove weeds and apply fertilizer once. Repeat weeding and fertilizing in June, August, and November. Afterwards, weed and fertilize once a year during the emergence of new shoots in May and November. Use livestock manure as the main fertilizer in spring and summer, and apply miscellaneous organic fertilizers in winter.

Used for treating breast abscesses; swelling and toxicity; dysentery; indigestion; abdominal pain due to food stagnation; amenorrhea; edema; difficulty in urination; dysmenorrhea; injuries; coughing up blood; vomiting blood; and external bleeding.

  Glutinous rice vine has the effects of clearing heat, detoxification, invigorating the spleen, and stopping bleeding. It is mainly used to treat ulcers, abscesses, scrofula, dysentery, leukorrhea in women, infantile malnutrition, vomiting blood, and external bleeding.

  The root of glutinous rice vine resembles ginseng, so it contains abundant moisture. As long as the roots are not damaged, the herb has strong vitality.

  Glutinous rice vine is widely distributed in southern China and often grows on embankments, field ridges, roadsides, hillsides, and damp ditches. It is not picky about its growth environment, as long as it is in a humid place.

  The stems and leaves of glutinous rice vine are tender and green. However, if it grows in a relatively dry place, the leaves may appear darker green and the stems may be reddish-purple, possibly due to increased absorption of ultraviolet light. Nevertheless, their medicinal effects are the same.
