  【Symptoms of Kutanzi poisoning】

Kutanzi is highly toxic. It is a toxic plant recorded in the Chinese Plant Atlas Database, and its toxicity is mainly in the seeds and roots. The symptoms of poisoning in humans are similar to that of Mao Yu Vine, including vomiting, abdominal pain, dizziness, dry mucous membranes, rapid breathing, and confusion.

When injected into the abdominal cavity of mice at a dose of 1g/kg, the animals lay on the ground and had increased respiration. At a dose of 5g/kg, they experienced difficulty breathing, convulsions, and death. It is used in rural areas of production areas to poison fish and kill insects, and its toxicity to insect larvae is equivalent to that of arsenic.

Due to its high toxicity, Kutanzi is often used externally, and oral administration should be cautious. Symptoms of poisoning include vomiting, abdominal pain, dizziness, dry mucous membranes, rapid breathing, and confusion. It initially stimulates the nerves and later causes paralysis.

Rescue methods: Gastric lavage, lubricants, and fluid supplementation can be considered in the early stages for symptomatic treatment. However, in Yunnan Simao, the roots of this plant were crushed and the juice was taken and consumed to treat acute gastroenteritis, with satisfactory results. If conditions permit, it can be tried under strict observation.
