Sheng Ma is good at clearing heat and toxins in the Yangming meridian. It is used for symptoms such as toothache due to stomach heat, mouth ulcers, and itchy skin rashes. It can be combined with Shi Gao, Huang Lian, and other herbs, such as in the formula Qing Wei San.

3. Lifting the sinking Yang energy

1. Tea substitute

Take 3g of Sheng Ma, 10g each of Rou Cong Rong and Gua Lou Ren, 6g of fried Zhi Ke, 3g of Yu Li Ren, 10g each of Huai Niu Xi and Huo Ma Ren. Boil all these herbs with water, drink it while warm, twice a day, to promote bowel movement.

2. Decoction

Take 3g each of Sheng Ma and Chai Hu, 15g of Dang Shen, 20g of Huang Qi, 5g of fresh ginger, and 5 jujubes (pitted). Boil them twice with water, combine the two decoctions, and take it once in the morning, noon, and evening. This formula is used to treat stomach prolapse.

3. Soup

Take 10g each of Sheng Ma and Zhi Shi, 20g of Huang Qi, 200g of rabbit meat, and appropriate amounts of green onion, ginger, cooking wine, and salt. Put all the herbs in a cheesecloth bag, and put it in the pot with the rabbit meat. Boil it with water, remove the residue, and season it before consuming.
