Flu Knowledge

Experts from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention pointed out that recent monitoring results in mainland China show that both the north and south of the country have entered the peak season for flu outbreaks. The proportion of flu-like cases reported by sentinel hospitals in the emergency department is higher than the same period in the past three years, and the positive rate of flu virus detection has reached the peak level of previous years and is still rising.

According to the monitoring results, the number of reported flu outbreaks nationwide is significantly higher than in previous years, with most of them caused by influenza type B. The monitoring system in China has not found any variations that affect the transmission, severity, and drug resistance of flu viruses. The overall level of flu in the country is still within the expected range.

How to prevent the flu? Experts from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention say that getting vaccinated is the most effective way to prevent the flu, and it can significantly reduce the risk of contracting the flu and developing severe complications. The World Health Organization recommends that high-risk groups such as the elderly, children, pregnant women, patients with chronic diseases, and medical personnel should be given priority for flu vaccination every year.

Experts also point out that neuraminidase inhibitors such as oseltamivir are effective antiviral drugs for treating the flu. Early use of antiviral drugs, especially within 48 hours of onset, can significantly reduce the incidence of severe flu and death.
