Spinach Seeds are the seeds of the amaranth family plant spinach.   Morphology of Plants and Animals

  Annual herb. The whole plant is smooth, tender and watery.

  The young roots are red. The stem is erect, hollow, and usually unbranched.

  Leaves are alternate with long petioles;

  The basal leaves and lower stem leaves are larger, and the upper stem leaves gradually become smaller, lanceolate or triangular-ovate, entire or with notches, and the leaves on the inflorescence become lanceolate.

  The flowers are unisexual, with separate male and female plants;

  Male flowers are arranged in interrupted spike-like panicles, terminal or axillary, with usually 4 perianth lobes, yellow-green, 4 stamens extending out, and anthers without appendages;

  Female flowers are clustered on the leaves, without perianth, bracts folded longitudinally, fused into a flat tube, and small bracts usually have 2 teeth at the apex, with usually 1 spine-like appendage on the back;

  The flowers are about 4, linear, slender, and the lower part is fused.

  The fruit is hard with usually 2 horn-like spines, and the fruit skin is adherent to the seed coat.

  The seeds are erect. The flowering period is from April to June, and the fruit ripening period is in June.

  When the seeds are mature in June or July, the above-ground parts are harvested, the fruits are removed, impurities are removed, and they are dried or used fresh.
