Wuxiang Vine is a type of herbal plant in the Magnoliaceae family that grows in sunny crevices or slopes and is distributed in Yunnan, China.
Wuxiang Vine is an evergreen climbing shrub. It has a stout, cylindrical main root. The leaves are alternate, subleathery, ovate-lanceolate to elongate oval, measuring 5-15 centimeters long. The apex is gradually pointed, the base is bluntly rounded, and the margin is either entire or sparsely finely serrated. The flowers are unisexual, axillary, and usually 1-2 per axil. The bracts are narrowly triangular, measuring approximately 1 millimeter in length and width. The perianth consists of 3-5 outer small triangular to almost kidney-shaped segments with marginal hairs and 5 inner purple-red, elliptic to obovate segments. The stamens are nearly globular. The fruit is bright red when ripe. The flowering period is in summer.
Wuxiang Vine has the effects of clearing heat and detoxification, promoting blood circulation and relieving pain, and reducing swelling. It is mainly used to treat influenza, snake bites, rabies, rheumatism, numbness, bruises, irregular menstruation, abscesses, and sores.
Wuxiang Vine can be harvested all year round. The roots and stems are sliced and dried, and the leaves can be dried or used fresh. It can be taken internally or applied externally. When taken internally, it is decocted in water, 4-6 qian (approximately 12-18 grams), or soaked in alcohol. When applied externally, an appropriate amount is taken, crushed and applied or ground into powder and sprinkled.
