1. Dispelling wind and promoting blood circulation
Used for wind-cold damp arthralgia, joint pain, difficulty in flexion and extension. It can be decocted or soaked in wine alone, or combined with Weilingxian, Shenjincan, and Luoshiteng.
2. Activating blood circulation and relieving pain
Used for various pains caused by blood stasis. It can be injected into the muscles with Gemgrass injection for wrist and abdominal pain, or combined with Wuyao and Yanhusuo.
3. Treating bruises and swelling
It can be decocted or soaked in wine alone, or the root skin can be mashed and heated with alcohol for external application. For lower back and leg pain, Gemgrass solution with a concentration of 20% can be used, and it can be applied using a low-frequency direct current induction physiotherapy machine.
4. Treating toothache
It can be decocted and used for mouthwash, or soaked in ethanol for one week and then applied to the affected area with a cotton swab dipped in the medicine.

[Characteristics of Herbal Pieces] The root is irregularly thin and sliced, or a mixture of stems and leaves. The periphery is dark yellowish-brown to light brown, with coarse longitudinal wrinkles and sometimes horizontal cracks. The skin pores are raised and dark yellow. The cut surface is smooth, with thin cork, and the skin is light brown with slightly glossy dark yellow spots. The wood is grayish-yellow.
The leaves are leathery and shiny, ovate or ovoid to round, with a round base, and the edges have loosely arranged rounded teeth or are nearly entire. It has a fragrant smell, bitter taste, and numbs the tongue.
[Quality Requirements] Calculated as dried product, the content of Gemgrass alkaloids (C22H18NO4) should not be less than 0.25%.
(The extract) is determined by the hot extraction method under the ethanol soluble extract determination method, using ethanol as the solvent, and should not be less than 5.5%.
