Chenqianzi: The Traditional Chinese Medicine for Relieving Phlegm and Cough

Chenqianzi is one of the common Chinese herbal medicines and is classified as a top-grade medicine in the "Shennong Herbal Classic". It is almost everywhere in China, with different names in different regions. Perhaps because it mostly grows by the roadside where vehicles pass by, ancient people gave it this name. Chenqianzi has many functions and effects. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that it has a sweet taste, a cold nature, and is non-toxic. It is a yin medicine that has the effects of improving eyesight, relieving phlegm and cough, eliminating dampness and diarrhea, clearing heat and diuresis, relieving heart and chest heat, nourishing the lungs and strengthening the yin, moisturizing the skin, anti-aging, and dispelling wind and toxins. It can be used to treat difficult childbirth in women, dysentery, headaches, urinary pain in women, frequent urination, injuries in men, edema, phlegm-heat cough, and other symptoms.


Relieving Phlegm and Coughing - Traditional Chinese Medicinal Food

1. Chenqianzi Corn Porridge

Ingredients: 10g of chenqianzi, 80g of corn kernels, 120g of rice, 2g of salt.

Method:

1. Soak the corn kernels and rice, then wash and drain the chenqianzi.

2. Put the corn kernels and rice in a pot with enough water and bring to a boil.

3. Add the chenqianzi and cook until the porridge becomes thick and smooth. Stir in the salt.

Effects:

1. Corn: It has the effects of appetizing, enhancing memory, lubricating the intestines, promoting nerve conduction and gastrointestinal protection, maintaining the strength and density of bones and teeth, etc.

2. Chenqianzi: It has the effects of diuresis, clearing heat, improving eyesight, relieving phlegm and cough, and reducing serum cholesterol.

3. Rice: It has the effects of tonifying the middle, benefiting qi, nourishing the spleen and stomach, harmonizing the five zang organs, promoting blood circulation, improving hearing and vision, relieving restlessness, thirst, and diarrhea.

2. Chenqianzi Pig Stomach Soup

Ingredients: 15g of chenqianzi, 30g of fresh chenqiancao, 150g of pig stomach, salt to taste.

Method:

1. Turn the pig stomach inside out, rub with salt and cornstarch repeatedly, and rinse with clean water.

2. Blanch the pig stomach in boiling water until it shrinks, then remove and slice.

3. In a clay pot, bring water to a boil, then add all the ingredients and simmer over low heat for 2.5 hours. Season to taste.

Effects:

1. Chenqianzi: It has the effects of diuresis, clearing heat, improving eyesight, relieving phlegm and cough, and reducing serum cholesterol.

2. Chenqiancao: It has the effects of clearing heat, promoting diuresis, cooling the blood, and detoxifying.

3. Pig stomach: It replenishes deficiency, invigorates the spleen and stomach, and has the effects of treating deficiency, fatigue, emaciation, diarrhea, frequent urination, and childhood malnutrition.

4. Chenqianzi pig stomach soup: This soup has the effects of invigorating the spleen and replenishing deficiency, clearing heat and promoting diuresis, improving eyesight, relieving phlegm and cough.


3. Chenqianzi Tea

Ingredients: 10g of chenqianzi.

Method:

1. Pick out impurities from the chenqianzi, wash off the mud, and dry it.

2. Put the chenqianzi in a cup, pour boiling water over it, cover it, and let it steep for 15 minutes before drinking.

Effects: Drinking chenqianzi tea can relieve phlegm and cough, and lower blood pressure.
