The reddish-brown hairy yunniuxi, also known as brown leaf yunniuxi or purple stem yunniuxi, is a perennial herb that grows 20-120 centimeters tall. Its roots are long and thin, with a diameter of 3-5 millimeters and a tan color.

The petals are lanceolate, measuring 3.5-5 millimeters in length, gradually tapering to a point. After flowering, they become hard and sharp, with a single vein. The stamens are 2.5-3.5 millimeters long. The degenerated stamens have a truncated or finely rounded tooth-like tip, with branched tuft-like long margins.

The fruit is ovoid, measuring 2.5-3 millimeters in length. The seeds are ovoid, not flattened, measuring about 2 millimeters in length and brown in color. The flowering period is from June to August, and the fruiting period is in October.

Yunniuxi grows by the roadside and is distributed in Fujian, Taiwan, Hunan, Yunnan, and other places. It is harvested in winter, and the roots and tops are removed, cleaned, and dried.

Identification: The roots are cylindrical, slightly curved, and branched, reaching up to 75cm in length and 4-15mm in diameter. They have a grayish-brown appearance with distinct wrinkles and transverse stripes.

They are not easily broken and have a fibrous texture with a brownish-yellow color. They have no odor and a slightly sweet taste. The best quality yunniuxi is characterized by its large size, oily texture, and brownish-gray appearance.

Storage: Keep in a cool and dry place, away from moisture.
