The Chinese herbal medicine Guanmutong is used for oral ulcers, restlessness, red urine, edema, hot and painful urination, leukorrhea, scanty menstruation, and damp-heat arthralgia. It is mainly produced in Jilin, Heilongjiang, Liaoning, and other areas.

Guanmutong in Medicinal Combinations

1. Treatment of urinary tract infections, dysuria with redness and pain

Guanmutong 6g, Portulaca oleracea 50g, decocted and taken orally.

2. Treatment of red eyes (conjunctivitis)

Guanmutong (appropriate amount) is soaked in boiling water and used for fumigation and washing (1-2 prescriptions from "Changbai Mountain Plant Medicinal Record").

Preparation of Guanmutong

Wash the herb, soak it slightly, moisturize it thoroughly, cut it into thin slices, and dry it in the sun.

Contraindications of Guanmutong

It should not be used excessively or for a long time. It is contraindicated in patients with renal insufficiency and pregnant women.

Precautions for the use of Guanmutong

It should be used with caution in individuals without damp-heat symptoms and pregnant women. Excessive use of this herb can cause acute renal failure and even death.

Symptoms of poisoning include discomfort in the upper abdomen, followed by vomiting, headache, chest tightness, abdominal distension and dull pain, diarrhea, facial edema, frequent urination, urgency, decreased urine output, gradual onset of generalized edema, and confusion.
