Fu Shen Tang: A Traditional Chinese Medicine Prescription for Dizziness and Nausea

Fu Shen Tang, a traditional Chinese medicine prescription, is derived from the book "Qixiao Liangfang" by Fang Xian in the Ming Dynasty. It is used to treat dizziness, nausea and vomiting, and sensitivity to loud noises.
 


 

[Composition] Fushen (remove bark, 4 liang), Duhuo (4 liang), Huangqi (5 liang), Yuanzhi (remove heart, 5 liang), Fangfeng (5 liang), Ginger (3 liang), Licorice (1 liang), Ginseng (1 liang), Danggui (1 liang), Muli (calcined, 1 liang), Baizhu (1 liang), Congrong (1 liang), Fuzi (1 liang)

[Functions and Indications] Treats dizziness, nausea and vomiting, and sensitivity to loud noises.

[Usage and Dosage] Take one dou (approximately 3 liters) of water, boil until reduced to three liters, and take five he (approximately 60 grams) at once, finishing within one day and night.

[Introduction to Medicinal Materials]

Fushen: Promotes water permeation and diuresis, strengthens the spleen and stomach, calms the mind and soothes the nerves. Used for urinary retention, edema, phlegm-dampness cough, vomiting, spleen deficiency with poor appetite, diarrhea, palpitations and restlessness, insomnia and forgetfulness, seminal emission with turbidity.

Yuanzhi: Calms the mind and improves memory, eliminates phlegm, reduces swelling. Used for insomnia and excessive dreaming caused by the disharmony between the heart and kidneys, forgetfulness, confusion, cough with phlegm, abscesses and swelling, breast swelling and pain. With a bitter and spicy warm nature, it is good at promoting circulation and is not only able to calm the mind and soothe the nerves by promoting the circulation of Qi, but also to strengthen the kidney Qi and enhance memory.

Ginseng: Body weakness with desire to collapse, cold limbs and weak pulse, spleen deficiency with poor appetite, lung deficiency with wheezing and coughing, body fluid injury with thirst, internal heat and excessive thirst, chronic illness with weakness, palpitations and insomnia, impotence and cold uterus; heart failure, cardiogenic shock.

Baizhu: Has the effects of tonifying the spleen and replenishing qi, drying dampness and promoting diuresis, stopping sweating, and calming the fetus. Used for spleen deficiency with poor appetite, abdominal distension and diarrhea, phlegm-dampness vertigo, edema, spontaneous sweating, restless fetus. It can remove dampness, tonify the middle, invigorate the spleen and stomach, regulate fluid metabolism, relieve stomach heat, strengthen the spleen and stomach, improve appetite, relieve thirst, and calm the fetus.

Fuzi: Revives yang and rescues collapse, reinforces fire and boosts yang, dispels cold and eliminates dampness. Used for excessive yin and insufficient yang, loss of yang due to profuse sweating, vomiting and diarrhea, cold pain in the abdomen, spleen diarrhea and cold dysentery, edema in the legs, slow startle in children, wind-cold-dampness arthralgia, sprains and spasms, impotence, cold uterus, ulcers with discharge, and all diseases with sinking cold and stubborn cold.
