Pulmonary grass is the whole plant of the plant Pulmonaria angustifolia, which belongs to the Boraginaceae family. It has the effects of clearing heat and moistening the lungs, reducing swelling and relieving pain. It is mainly used for the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis, parotitis, lymphadenitis, laryngitis, leukorrhea, heat-induced sores and swelling, and bruises and injuries.

Pulmonary grass is a perennial herbaceous plant, 10-45 cm tall. The basal leaves are thick and papery, kidney-shaped or heart-shaped, 2.5-6 cm long; the petiole can reach up to 16 cm long; the stem leaves are one per stem, round, with a heart-shaped base, embracing the stem, and entire margin.

The flowers are white, solitary at the top of the stem; the sepals are 5, ovate or broadly ovate, with blunt tips; the petals are 5, spoon-shaped, inverted ovate, or inverted lanceolate, up to 2.5 cm long, with entire margin, sometimes sparsely ciliate or finely divided at the lower or basal part.

There are 5 stamens, alternating with the petals, with brown filaments, elongated in a diamond shape above the anthers, and the middle and upper parts of the degenerate stamens are deeply divided into 3 lobes; the ovary is superior, with 3 united carpels, the stigma slightly longer than the ovary, and the style divided into 3 parts. The capsule is elliptical. The flowering and fruiting period is from June to September.

Pulmonary grass mainly grows by the roadside, on the edge of forests, under the trees, or on grassy slopes. It is distributed in Yunnan, Sichuan, Hunan, Hubei, Shaanxi, Henan, and other places.
