January 10, 2024

The traditional Chinese medicine "Longxucao" is a common plant in rural areas, often seen on the roadside fields. In the past, people used Longxucao to make straw shoes and lamp wicks, but now it is more commonly used in the medical field. Let's learn about the legend of Longxucao below!

The Dragon Emperor, also known as the Heavenly Emperor, is said to be the incarnation of the Yellow Emperor, the ancestor of the Chinese nation. In ancient times, the Yellow Emperor with dragon bloodline traveled around to observe the people's sentiments. He asked people to mine copper from the first mountain and then transport it to the foot of Jing Mountain to cast a cauldron to commemorate his victory over Chi You in a great battle.

After the cauldron was cast, the Yellow Emperor held a grand celebration at Jing Mountain. Not only various gods were invited to attend the ceremony, but also people from all directions. Everyone wanted to see what the cauldron cast by the Yellow Emperor looked like.

When the time came, the Yellow Emperor personally unveiled the cauldron. A towering cauldron with a mouth as large as a vat, shining with dazzling golden light, appeared in front of everyone. The crowd praised it and approached to take a closer look. On the body of the cauldron, there was a vigorous dragon swimming among the auspicious clouds.

Surrounding the dragon were gods and various rare birds and animals from all directions, each with its own unique and vivid appearance.

Just as people were admiring the giant cauldron and the patterns on it with reverence, suddenly the sky became cloudy and darkened quickly. Everyone thought it was going to rain.

Suddenly, a golden light pierced through the dense clouds, and a dragon wearing golden armor broke through the clouds. Its tail and lower body were dragging in the clouds, and its head rested on the cauldron. Long and majestic dragon whiskers hung down from the cauldron to the ground.

The Yellow Emperor understood that this was the Heavenly Court sending a divine dragon to take him back to heaven, so he leaped up and rode on the dragon's back, flying back to the Heavenly Court.

The common people on earth were reluctant to let the wise and virtuous ruler like the Yellow Emperor go, so they grabbed onto the dragon whiskers and refused to let go. As a result, many dragon whiskers were pulled off, but the Yellow Emperor and the divine dragon eventually departed.

It is said that where the dragon whiskers fell on the ground, many slender and delicate grasses grew. Since then, people have called this grass "Longxucao" ("Dragon Whisker Grass").
