Holistic Approach: Traditional Chinese Medicine for Hypertension Treatment

January 10, 2024

Western medicine treatment for hypertension can lower blood pressure, but it requires lifelong medication and often leads to rebound and fluctuation in blood pressure, as well as significant side effects. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), on the other hand, emphasizes holistic treatment, which not only improves symptoms effectively but also has fewer side effects and less chance of rebound. Although there are various ways to lower blood pressure in TCM, dietary therapy is the most effective in terms of sustained efficacy.

1. Chrysanthemum and Ginseng Tea for Blood Pressure Reduction

Ingredients:

- 5-10g Panax ginseng

- 20-30g hawthorn berries

- Approximately 10g chrysanthemum flowers

Method:

- First, put the ingredients into a ceramic teacup, rinse with clean water, and then steep with boiling water for about 5-10 minutes. The tea is ready to drink when the water temperature is warm. Only make one cup of tea per day, repeat brewing until the water tastes bland. It is best to drink it half an hour after a meal when absorption is optimal.

Efficacy:

- Take this tea for one month as one cycle. Both hawthorn berries and chrysanthemum flowers have auxiliary effects in lowering blood pressure, while Panax ginseng contains various volatile oils that are potent in lowering both high blood pressure and high blood sugar. It also has a tonifying effect on the kidneys and yang. This formula is natural and has no side effects. It has a significant effect on regulating blood pressure and, with consistent use, blood pressure can be controlled within the normal range without rebound. It not only improves symptoms but also protects target organs such as the heart, brain, and kidneys from damage. This formula can be used for a long time, leading to sustained improvement and greatly improving the quality of life for patients.

Note:

- When selecting the ingredients, both fresh and dried hawthorn berries are suitable. When choosing chrysanthemum flowers, make sure they are intact, fragrant, and brightly colored. Panax ginseng is relatively expensive, so be sure to purchase genuine products. During use, it is necessary to maintain good habits of rest and avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption. A light diet is recommended.

2. Celery and Bitter Gourd Soup

Ingredients:

- 500g celery

- 60g bitter gourd

Method:

- Boil the celery (500g) and bitter gourd (60g) together to make a soup. Alternatively, blanch 250g of celery and 30g of bitter gourd in boiling water for 2 minutes, then chop and squeeze for juice. Add an appropriate amount of sugar and drink it with hot water. Take one dose daily for several days.

Indication:

- Suitable for hypertension and dizziness caused by yin deficiency and yang deficiency.

3. Kudzu Root and Glutinous Rice Porridge

Ingredients:

- Kudzu root (appropriate amount)

- 20g sand ginseng

- 20g dwarf lilyturf root

Method:

- Wash and slice fresh kudzu root, take 30g of kudzu root, 20g of sand ginseng, and 20g of dwarf lilyturf root. Grind them with water, collect the sediment, and dry it.
