Han Mei Ye refers to the leaves or whole herb of the rose family plant Han Mei. It grows in the shade of mountain slopes and along mountain roads. It is distributed in Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Hubei, Sichuan, Fujian, and Taiwan.
Morphology of Han Mei Ye
Han Mei (Compendium of Materia Medica) is also known as lung-shaped grass, drifting sand, cold prickly foam, mountain fireberry, and large prickly waves.
Evergreen creeping shrub. The stem is often oblique and about 30 cm high, with many hairs, without thorns or with a few thorns; the creeping branches can reach up to 2 meters long.
The leaves are alternate, nearly circular, with a diameter of 4-8 cm, with 5 shallow lobes and serrations on the edges, a rounded and blunt apex, a heart-shaped base, nearly hairless on the upper surface, and densely covered with pubescence on the lower surface and petioles.
The inflorescence is cymose, axillary, with 5-10 flowers, and the peduncle is covered with gray-white hairs; the flowers are white; the calyx has 5 lobes, covered with pubescence on the outside. The aggregate fruit is nearly spherical and red. The fruiting period is from October to November.
