Usage, Dosage, and Prescriptions of Suiguzi

[Usage and Dosage] Internal use: decoction, 10-15g.

[Prescription Application] ①Treatment of nephritis: Wei Zhuye root, Allium tuberosum, each five qian. Decoct and take, once a day. ("Jiangxi Herbal Medicine")

②Treatment of fever, restlessness, and thirst: Dianzhuye root or leaf, three to five qian. Decoct and take. ("Jiangxi Herbal Medicine")

Morphology of Suiguzi Plant

1. Dianzhuye is a perennial herbaceous plant, 40-90cm tall. The rhizome is thick and short, hard. The fibrous roots are sparse, and the near top or middle part is often thickened into a spindle-shaped tuber.

The stem is weak, with some lignification. The leaves are alternate, broadly lanceolate, 5-20cm long, 1.5-3cm wide, gradually pointed or short pointed at the apex, entire margin, nearly circular or gradually narrowed into a petiole or petioleless at the base, with multiple parallel veins and obvious transverse veins, forming small rectangular shapes, smooth or with small prickles on both sides; leaf sheaths are smooth or with fibers; leaf tongue is small, hard, 0.5-1mm long, with marginal hairs.


Suiguzi

The panicle is terminal, 10-30cm long, with few branches, sparse and oblique or spreading; spikelets are linear-needle-shaped, 7-12mm long (including short awn), 1.5-2.5mm wide, with stout spikelet pedicels about 1mm long; glumes are oval, with five veins, blunt at the apex, thin and membranous at the edge, the first glume shorter than the second glume; the outer glume is longer than the glume, needle-shaped, 6-7mm long, about 3mm wide, with a short pointed tip at the apex, and 5-7 veins, the inner glume is shorter than the outer glume, transparent and membranous.

The lemma and palea are spindle-shaped and dark brown. The flowering period is from June to September, and the fruiting period is from August to October.

2. Zhonghua Dianzhuye is similar in appearance to Dianzhuye. The difference is that the leaf blade of Zhonghua Dianzhuye can reach 4cm in width. The panicle branches are shorter, 3-8cm long; spikelets are broadly lanceolate, 7-9cm long, 2.5-3mm wide; glumes are broadly ovate, with 5-7 veins; the first outer glume is about 6mm long and about 5mm wide, with 7 veins, and a short awn not exceeding 1mm at the apex. The flowering period is from August to September, and the fruiting period is from September to October.

Habitat Distribution of Suiguzi

[Ecological Environment] 1. Dianzhuye grows wild in shady and humid places under mountain slopes and along ditches.

2. Zhonghua Dianzhuye grows on mountain slopes and beside streams.

[Resource Distribution] 1. Dianzhuye is distributed in the Yangtze River Basin, southern China, and southwestern China.

2. Zhonghua Dianzhuye is distributed in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Fujian, Hunan, and other places.
