    Functions and Indications

    Tangjie has a bitter and spicy taste, and cold nature. It belongs to the spleen, stomach, and heart meridians. It can invigorate the spleen and stomach, promote diuresis, and strengthen the heart. It is mainly used for spleen and stomach disharmony, indigestion, and edema caused by heart failure.

    Dosage and Administration

    Oral administration: decoction, 6-9g; powdered and taken, 0.3-1g.

    Collection and Processing

    The whole grass is collected and excavated in spring and summer, and the seeds are harvested when the fruits ripen from July to September. Cut the whole plant, dry it, remove the seeds, and clean it.

    1. Medicinal characteristics

    The stem can reach up to 60cm in length, without branching or with some branches in the upper part, with edges and corners, and densely covered with appressed bifurcate hairs. The leaves are wrinkled and when flattened, the leaf blades are lanceolate or long elliptical, with basal leaves measuring 5-15cm in length and 0.5-2cm in width, with entire margins and appressed bifurcate hairs on both sides.

    The flowers have a diameter of about 1cm; the petals are orange-yellow and almost round. The odor is slight, and the taste is slightly bitter. The seeds are long and elliptical, flattened on the sides, about 2.5mm in length, and dark reddish-brown. The odor is slight, and the taste is mild.

    2. Appearance of herbal pieces

    They are irregular small pieces, including stems, leaves, flowers, and fruits. The stems are cylindrical with edges and covered with appressed hairs. The leaves are mostly fragmented, with sparsely serrated or nearly entire margins. The flowers are pale yellow, and the petals are inversely ovate. The siliques are short or elongated, with blunt edges, and there are several seeds, which are long and elliptical and dark reddish-brown in color.
