Is Medicinal Ginger Suitable for Use as a Spice?

Medicinal ginger and Chinese medicinal ginger are very similar in appearance, but Chinese medicinal ginger has not been commonly used as a spice. Medicinal ginger has a distinct smell and aroma, while Chinese medicinal ginger has a very mild taste.

After stewing in hot water, medicinal ginger releases its aroma faster than Chinese medicinal ginger. This is because they are two different plants. The fruit of Chinese medicinal ginger, known as red cardamom, has a taste that differs greatly from medicinal ginger.

Iris flavonoid glycosides and iris flavonoids have been found to have anti-hyaluronidase effects in vitro, and they are not blocked by cysteine. They can also inhibit hyaluronidase-induced edema in rats without inhibiting carrageenan-induced edema. They also have inhibitory effects on ascites caused by nitrogen mustard injection in rats.
