5 Fruits to Avoid Eating at Night for Better Health

January 7, 2024

Everyone knows that eating more fruits is good for our health and especially beneficial for our skin. People often eat fruits after dinner, but I want to remind you that although eating more fruits is good for our health, there are a few fruits that we should avoid eating at night!

1. Durian

It has low protein and fat content. The glycemic index is about 42, which is not very high, but 2/3 of its composition is sugar. For people with high blood sugar, high or low blood pressure, poor heart function, and gastrointestinal ulcers, it is still necessary to be cautious when eating durian. It is best to reduce the amount of rice and then eat durian to avoid excessive calorie intake and worsen existing diseases.

2. Dragon Fruit

It is rich in vitamin B1, B2, B3, vitamin C, carotene, anthocyanins, and also contains trace elements such as calcium, phosphorus, and iron, as well as water-soluble dietary fiber, which can prevent constipation and aid in bowel movements. It is also considered a "weight-loss fruit". However, due to its easily absorbable natural glucose content, it is not advisable for diabetics to eat too much in one meal. People with gastrointestinal disorders and prone to diarrhea should also consume it in moderation.

3. Custard Apple

Each 100 grams of custard apple contains about 15.3% to 18.3% total sugar, and vitamin C content is 265mg. Due to its sweet taste and high sugar content, it should be consumed in moderation by diabetics.

4. Mango

Mango is a common tropical fruit with a high glycemic index, so it is not advisable for diabetics to eat too much. It is also an allergenic food, and people with allergies may have allergic reactions even by just touching the skin. Therefore, individuals with allergies should be cautious when consuming mangoes. Soaking mangoes in saltwater before consumption does not reduce the chances of allergies, it only improves the taste.

5. Mangosteen

Mangosteen is rich in hydroxycitric acid, xanthones, and other components. Hydroxycitric acid has good effects in inhibiting fat synthesis, suppressing appetite, and reducing weight. However, excessive intake of mangosteen may increase the possibility of acidosis due to the presence of oxygenated anthraquinone. Generally, eating four or five mangosteens at a time is sufficient.

Fruits have a high sugar content, so eating fruits at night is not conducive to digestion and can easily lead to excessive calorie intake and weight gain. Therefore, if you want to eat fruits at night, choose hawthorn or longan instead. Longan has a calming and sleep-promoting effect, which can make you sleep better.
