【Legend of Xianhecao】

In the past, there were more than one hundred immortal cranes living in the reed pond in Liaoheyuan Town, Dongliao County. Among them, a female crane who led the group was very beautiful, and it was said that she came to the mortal world from the heavens.

Not far from the reed pond, there is a lake spring called Zhuanxin. The spring water is sweet and fragrant, clear and never dries up. One year, there was a severe drought, and the reed pond dried up. The immortal cranes were extremely thirsty and begged the crane goddess to fetch some water from the lake spring.

The crane goddess agreed and transformed into a village girl, carrying a water jar, and came to the spring. She leaned over to look into the spring, and her beautiful figure was reflected in the water. The earth dragon at the bottom of the spring saw this beautiful village girl and suddenly rushed out of the water, opening its mouth and claws, pouncing towards the crane girl.

The crane girl fought fiercely with the earth dragon and smashed the water jar towards the dragon's eyes. Unexpectedly, the earth dragon bit her foot and grabbed her collar.

The crane girl was angry and unable to fight back, so she shouted and immediately returned to her original form, flying into the sky; her crane sisters in the reeds also flew away with her. From then on, a kind of grass slowly grew on this land. It had feather-like compound leaves, flower spikes at the top, black roots, and white buds at the root. People called it Xianhecao.
