Rheumatism is very common in daily life, especially among elderly people. Due to its chronic nature, traditional Chinese medicine is often chosen for treatment. Let's learn about the method of using Xu Changqing to treat rheumatic pain.

Xu Changqing's efficacy and function:

1. Dispelling wind and promoting blood circulation

This herb has a warm and spicy taste and has the ability to dispel wind, eliminate dampness, promote blood circulation, and relieve pain. It is often used for rheumatic conditions, such as joint pain and stiffness, as well as for kidney and liver deficiency causing lower back pain.

2. Warming meridians and relieving pain

This herb has a strong analgesic effect and is commonly used for various types of pain. It can treat conditions such as abdominal pain caused by cold stagnation, toothache, menstrual pain caused by blood stasis and qi stagnation, and trauma-induced pain and blood stagnation.

3. Eliminating dampness and relieving itching

This herb has the ability to dispel wind, eliminate dampness, and relieve itching. It is used for treating conditions such as wind rash, eczema, and persistent itching. It can be taken internally or used externally, either alone or in combination with other herbs.

Xu Changqing's prescription for treatment:

1. Treatment of toothache: Take 5 grams of dried Xu Changqing root, wash it, add 1500 milliliters of water, and simmer until it reduces to 500 milliliters. Alternatively, the root can be powdered. Take 90 milliliters of the liquid when experiencing pain, rinse the mouth with the solution for 1-2 minutes, and then swallow. If using the powder, take 0.5-1 gram each time, twice a day. (From "Selected Compilation of Oral Diseases")

2. Treatment of dysentery and enteritis: Take 1-2 grams of Lishicao (another name for Xu Changqing), decoct it in water, and take it once a day. (From "Selected Compilation of Infectious Diseases")

3. Treatment of skin itching: Take an appropriate amount of Xu Changqing, decoct it in water, and use the decoction to wash the affected area. (From "Jilin Traditional Chinese Medicine")

4. Treatment of abdominal distension: Take 3 grams of Xu Changqing, decoct it in water to make half a bowl, and take it while warm. (From "Jilin Traditional Chinese Medicine")

Clinical applications of Xu Changqing:

1. Treatment of chronic bronchitis: Take 50 grams of Xu Changqing, make it into a decoction or pills, and take it twice a day for a treatment course of 10 days. It has certain anti-inflammatory, expectorant, antitussive, and anti-asthmatic effects. It is more effective for simple chronic bronchitis, but less effective for asthma. When combined with fishy-smelling herb (another Chinese herb), the therapeutic effect is improved.

2. Treatment of rheumatic pain: Make 100 ml of Xu Changqing into an injection solution, and inject it into the muscle at a dosage of 2-4 ml each time. Generally, after 5-10 minutes of injection, it has a analgesic effect that lasts for about 2 hours.

In addition to treating acute abdominal pain caused by conditions such as enteritis, gallbladder inflammation, and gallstone disease, Xu Changqing can also be used for acupoint injection to treat rheumatic pain.

3. Treatment of snakebite: Xu Changqing can be taken internally or applied externally to treat snakebites and herpes zoster. When combined with Jinquegen (a herb from the Leguminosae family), a 100% injection solution can be made for intramuscular injection, which has been effective in treating a certain triple syndrome involving the mouth, eyes, and genitals.
