Diyu has the effects of clearing heat, promoting diuresis, cooling blood, and stopping bleeding. It is mainly used to treat diarrhea, dysentery, indigestion, abdominal pain, nosebleeds, and excessive menstruation. It is also effective for postpartum hemorrhage and injuries from falls and strikes.

① "Dian Nan Ben Cao": "It stops abdominal pain, back pain, and stomach pain. After a long time, it can treat bloody dysentery after seven days."

② "Yunnan Chinese Herbal Medicine": "It aids digestion, stops diarrhea and bleeding, treats dysentery, diarrhea, internal bleeding, excessive menstruation, and stomach pain."

③ "Selected Yunnan Chinese Herbal Medicine": "It has astringent and hemostatic properties, promotes blood circulation, relieves pain, aids digestion, and stops diarrhea.   Ingredients:

  Diyu, rhinoceros horn (powdered), fried Coptis chinensis, fried cypress leaves (slightly fried), baked Phellodendron amurense, Radix Angelicae Sinensis (slightly fried), Scutellaria baicalensis, Rehmannia glutinosa, and red Diyu, each weighing 15 grams.

  Usage and dosage:

  Take three qianbi per serving, decoct in water, and take at any time.

  "Sheng Ji Zong Lu" Volume 77: Diyu soup is mainly used to treat bloody dysentery, abdominal pain, and irritability, like chicken liver slices.

  Traditional Chinese medicine believes that Diyu has a cold, sour, and astringent nature. It should be used with caution in cases of bleeding due to deficiency and cold or stagnation. It is not suitable to use Diyu preparations externally on patients with large-area burns to prevent excessive absorption of tannins and the occurrence of toxic hepatitis.

  4. "Ben Cao Jing Shu": "It is forbidden to use in cases of postpartum deficiency and cold with diarrhea and bleeding, as well as cases of weakened yang and blood stasis."

  5. "Ben Cao Hui Yan": "It is forbidden to use when there is no heat in boils and long-term illnesses, as well as when there is a decline in yang and blood."

  6. "Ben Jing Feng Yuan": "It is also forbidden for those with qi deficiency and sinking, excessive uterine bleeding, prolonged dysentery with pus and blood, and stagnation not fresh. Its nature can damage the stomach, and excessive consumption can cause mouth closure and loss of appetite."
