【Morphological Characteristics of Lingjing】

Ge Ling:

Annual aquatic herb. Leaves are dimorphic; floating leaves are clustered at the stem apex; leaf stalks may or may not have hairs, with elongated oval spongy air sacs in the middle and upper parts.

Leaf blades are nearly triangular or diamond-shaped, 1.5-3.5 cm long, 1.5-4 cm wide, with larger dentate teeth in the middle and upper parts of the margin, wedge-shaped or broadly wedge-shaped at the base, green and hairless on the upper surface, and sparsely soft-haired along the veins on the lower surface. Submerged leaves are pinnately divided.

Flowers are bisexual, white, and born in the leaf axils; flower stalks are about 1.5 cm long and covered with short soft hairs; calyx has 4 lanceolate or elliptic sepals, about 5 mm long, and hairy along the ridge; petals number 4; stamens number 4; ovary is semi-inferior with a single style.

Nutlets are inverted triangular, about 1.5 cm high; shoulder angles are flat or slightly inclined upward, with prickles at the tip, and the width between the two angles is 3-4.5 cm; no waist angles, but there are often mound-like protrusions in their positions. Flowering period is from June to July, and fruiting period is from September to October.
