【Morphological Characteristics of Blood-filled Herb】
The stem of the blood-filled herb is cylindrical in shape, with a diameter of 0.3-1.5cm. The surface is grayish-green to greenish-brown, hard and brittle in texture. The stem has multiple longitudinal ridges, and the grooves are covered with yellow-brown to rust-colored short hairs, with almost no hairs on the ridges.
The outer layer of the stem is hard and woody in cross-section; the pith is wide and white, spongy in texture, slightly shiny, with scattered brownish-red dots, mostly on the outer side of the pith.
The odd-pinnate compound leaves are opposite, with short leaflets that are greenish-brown to dark green, short-hairy, and often wrinkled and broken. The intact ones are lanceolate in shape when unfolded, 5-15cm long, and 2-4cm wide, with serrated edges.
Flowers are occasionally seen, with terminal conical inflorescences and small, pale yellow or white flowers. The scent is slightly fragrant, and the taste is mild and slightly astringent. The color of the stem surface, the longitudinal ridges and hairiness of the stem, the wide pith, and the scattered brownish-red dots are the most distinctive identification points.
