Four Medicinal Diets to Alleviate Gallstone Pain and Aid in Recovery

Medicinal Diet 1: Buddha's Hand Orange Congee

Composition: 30g Buddha's Hand orange, 60g glutinous rice, 15g rock sugar.

Usage: Boil the Buddha's Hand orange in water for half an hour, remove the residue. Add glutinous rice and rock sugar, then simmer with water to make a porridge. Consume warm twice daily.

Efficacy: Soothes the liver and stomach, promotes qi circulation and relieves pain.

Indications: Distending pain in the costal region, bloating and fullness in the epigastric region, chest tightness and discomfort, loss of appetite.


Medicinal Diet 2: Rose Tea

Composition: 10g rose flowers.

Usage: Brew the rose flowers with boiling water and drink as a tea.

Efficacy: Regulates qi, relieves depression, disperses blood stasis, and alleviates pain.

Indications: Chronic cholecystitis, gallstone disease, disharmony between the liver and stomach, distending pain in the epigastric region and costal region.


Medicinal Diet 3: Jasmine and Rose Congee

Composition: 6g jasmine flowers, 5g rose flowers, 3g magnolia flowers, 6g hawthorn fruit, 60g rice.

Usage: Wash the rice thoroughly, remove the hawthorn fruit pits, rinse all three flowers, and add them to a pot with water. Cook the congee, add a little rock sugar when it is ready. Consume twice a day, morning and evening, for several days.

Efficacy: Soothes the liver and stomach, regulates qi, and activates collaterals.

Indications: Chronic cholecystitis, gallstone disease, disharmony between the liver and stomach, qi stagnation and blood stasis, discomfort and pain in the costal region, poor appetite, aversion to oily and greasy foods.


Medicinal Diet 4: Pearl Grass and Pig Liver Soup

Composition: 60g fresh pearl grass (or 30g dried), 100g pig liver.

Usage: Wash the fresh pearl grass and chop it into small pieces. Wash the pig liver and slice it thinly. Cook the pig liver in a pot with an appropriate amount of water. Once the liver is cooked, add the pearl grass and bring the water to a boil. Remove the residue and drink the soup with the pig liver. Consume once daily for 5-6 days.

Efficacy: Clears heat, detoxifies, eliminates dampness, and relieves jaundice.

Indications: Chronic cholecystitis, gallstone disease, hepatitis, damp-heat in the liver and gallbladder, pain and discomfort in the costal region, burning sensation, irritability, bitter taste in the mouth, dark yellow urine, unsatisfactory and foul-smelling stools.
