【Original Plant Morphology of Sticky Rice Vine】
The sticky rice vine, also known as "man ning ma", is a perennial herb that grows upright or leans at an angle, or lies on the ground with the top part extending upwards, usually with stiff hairs. The main root is thick and cone-shaped. The leaves are opposite, ovate or elliptic-lanceolate, 3.5-7 cm long, 1-2 cm wide, with blunt or gradually pointed tips, rounded to nearly cordate bases, entire margins, 3 main veins starting from the base; the reticulate veins on the back of the leaves are obvious, with stiff hairs, rough on the upper surface, or with stiff hairs; they are either sessile or have short petioles; the stipules are broadly ovate. The flowers are small, unisexual, and monoecious, clustered in the leaf axils, yellow-green; the male flowers have 3-5 lobes, arranged in a clasping arrangement in the buds, with the lobes bending inward sharply and forming a ring, with stiff hairs on the back, and 5 stamens; the female flowers have tubular calyxes, diamond-shaped stigmas, and broad-ovate capsules with pointed tips, longitudinally ridged, black, and smooth. The flowering period is from July to August.
