The source of crane meat is from the Crane family of animals.
The crane is also known as the Dan Ding Crane (Shijing), the White Crane (Jiayou Bencao), the Immortal Crane (Riyong Bencao), the Immortal Bird, and the Fetal Bird (Gangmu).
The body length is more than 1.2 meters. The beak is long and greenish-gray, slightly lighter at the tip, and slightly yellowish. The iris is brown. The main body feathers are mainly white.
The skin on the top of the head is bare and reddish, and the top of the head is not red when young; the forehead and eyes are slightly black; the throat, cheeks, and neck are dark brown.
The flight feathers are black, with secondary and tertiary feathers long and curved like a bow; when the wings are folded, they cover the entire white short tail, which is often mistaken for tail feathers. The female bird is the same color as the male bird.
The tibia, tarsus, and toes are slender and blackish-gray, with small hind toes positioned higher than the front three toes, and gray claws.
It often wades in shallow water near rivers. It has a loud cry and strong flying ability. Its main diet consists of fish, insects, crustaceans, and frogs, among others. It breeds in the Heilongjiang Province of China and migrates to the lower reaches of the Yangtze River for the winter.
