Can Wuxueteng be taken during menstruation?

Wuxueteng is contraindicated during menstruation mainly because women's bodies are weaker during this time, so caution should be exercised when taking it.

As long as it is used in the recommended dosage, Wuxueteng is generally safe and has no side effects. The safety of Wuxueteng during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been tested.

Diabetic patients should only take Wuxueteng extract to reduce blood sugar under the clinical supervision of healthcare professionals.

Wuxueteng has been used for more than 2000 years in India and southern China to treat diabetes. Its leaves are also used to nourish the stomach, relieve constipation, retain moisture, and treat liver diseases.

Pharmacological effects of Wuxueteng

1. Hypoglycemic effect

Experts used a mouse model of experimental diabetes induced by streptozotocin to observe the hypoglycemic effect of Wuxueteng compound preparation. The results showed that the high and low doses of Wuxueteng compound preparation could significantly counteract the diabetic effect induced by streptozotocin.

This indicates that its main mechanism of hypoglycemic action is through the protective effect on pancreatic islet cells and the promotion of recovery and regeneration of pancreatic beta cells.

2. Hypolipidemic effect

The high and low doses of Wuxueteng compound preparation could significantly reduce the serum total cholesterol and triglyceride levels in rats with fed-induced hyperlipidemia.

This preparation is effective in an animal model of endogenous hypercholesterolemia caused by feeding a diet rich in saturated fatty acids.

3. Inhibition of sweetness

Potassium salt of Wuxueteng acid can inhibit the sensitivity of humans or animals to the sweetness of sucrose and sodium saccharin, but the glycosides of its hydrolysis products do not have the inhibitory effect on sweetness.

Gurmarin in Wuxueteng leaf extract can inhibit the sweetness of sucrose, glucose, gum arabic, and saccharin, but it does not affect the taste of salt, acid, or bitterness.
