  The earthworm, also known as the golden sand cow, is the larva of the antlion, an insect in the family Myrmeleontidae. It lives only in sand and is a traditional Chinese medicinal material. It is mainly distributed in southern China, Taiwan, Sichuan, and other regions. It has the effects of promoting urination, treating malaria, softening hardness, detoxifying, and removing decay.


 

  【Basic Information of Earthworm】

  Origin: It is produced in various cities and counties in Guangdong Province, including Conghua, Huidong, Zijin, Heping, Qujiang, Wengyuan, Nanxiong, Shixing, Lechang, Renhua, Guangning, Zhuhai, Doumen, Meixian, Jiangmen, Maoming, Zhanjiang, etc.

  Harvesting and processing of earthworm: It is suitable to capture them in summer and autumn when the temperature is high. After capture, they are stir-fried in hot sand until they expand, then removed and sifted to remove sand.

  Characteristics: The body of the earthworm is coarse and grain-like, measuring 0.7-1 centimeters in length. It is yellow-brown or light brown and covered with many short hairs.

  The front end of the head has pincer-like mandibles. The abdomen is slightly expanded or swollen due to frying, with several annular stripes and black spots.

  There are 3 pairs of legs on the thorax. The head and legs have mostly fallen off due to frying. The body is light and brittle. It has a slight fishy smell and a slightly salty taste.

  Quality requirements: The ideal specimen should be large and expanded, with a yellow-brown color and intact without breakage.

  Prescription:

  Desmodium styracifolium 50 grams, Coptis chinensis 30 grams, tangerine seed 15 grams, Abelmoschus esculentus seed 30 grams, earthworm 10 grams, Hedyotis diffusa 30 grams (wrapped in cloth), talcum 20 grams, talc 20 grams, Polygonum aviculare 15 grams, Imperata cylindrica 15 grams, Euphorbia humifusa 30 grams, and Arisaema erubescens 15 grams.

  Decoction and take orally, one dose per day, once a day. Take continuously for five days. If there is pain and blood in the urine, add 30 grams of white couch grass root. If there is pain and blood in the urine, add 30 grams of white couch grass root.
