Morphological Characteristics of Blood Mancao
The stem of Blood Mancao is cylindrical with a diameter of 0.3-1.5cm. The surface is gray-green to green-brown, hard and brittle. The stem has multiple longitudinal ridges with yellow-brown to rust-colored short hairs, and the ridges are almost hairless;
The outer layer of the stem is hard and lignified; the pith is wide and white, loose and spongy, slightly glossy, with scattered brownish-red dots, mostly on the outer side of the pith.
Odd-pinnate compound leaves are opposite, with short petioles, green-brown to dark green in color, and covered with short hairs. The leaflets are wrinkled and broken, and when unfolded, they are lanceolate, 5-15cm long and 2-4cm wide, with serrated edges.
Flowers are occasionally seen, with a terminal corymbose inflorescence, small and pale yellow or white. It has a slightly fragrant smell, with a light and slightly astringent taste.
