Pinyin has no odor and a slightly bitter taste. It is widely produced in various parts of China and belongs to the Dicotyledoneae class of flowering plants. Also known as Bianxu, Daxu, Niaoliao, Bianzhu, Zhujiecao, Zhuyacao, Daoshengcao.
Prohibited/Avoided Groups
Pinyin is toxic to horses and sheep when used as forage. No reports of toxicity have been found in clinical use. This herb is considered to be cold and bitter, and excessive consumption is believed to deplete the body's vital energy. Therefore, it is not suitable for those with no dampness, heat swelling, or deficient vital energy.
Clinical Applications
1. Treatment of hot jaundice: Pinyin is cooked in soybean juice with five flavors and consumed as a soup.
2. Treatment for vomiting caused by cholera: Pinyin is cooked in soybean juice with five types of rhizomes and consumed as a soup.
3. Treatment of roundworm disease: Pinyin is boiled in water and then boiled again to make a concentrated decoction. Fasting on the previous night, one liter is consumed on an empty stomach the next day, which will expel the worms.
4. Treatment of hemorrhoids: Pinyin is mashed and the juice is consumed in one liter. If it is not effective, it can be taken again. Another method is to make a pancake with Pinyin juice and flour, and consume it three times a day.
5. Treatment of itchy ulcers: Pinyin is mashed and applied to the affected area, and the scab will fall off and the disease will heal.
Classic Prescriptions
1. Treatment of hot painful urination: Pinyin is boiled into a soup and consumed frequently. (From "Shengshengbian")
2. Treatment of excessive heat in adults and children, all kinds of toxins, dry throat, excessive thirst, restlessness, red and painful eyes, dry lips, nosebleeds, oral ulcers, swollen and painful throat. Also used for difficult or blocked urination, hot and painful urination, and blood in the urine: Cheqianzi, Qumai, Pinyin, Huashi, Shanzhizi, Gancao (processed), Mutong, and Dahuang (peeled, sliced, and baked), 500g each. This is prepared as a powder. Take 10g per dose, add a cup of water, simmer until 70% is left, and remove the residue. Take it warm, lie down after meals, and give a small amount to children according to their strength. (From "Jufang Bazheng San")
3. Treatment of heat: Pinyin juice is consumed in one liter, and it can be taken again for chronic conditions.
4. Treatment of heart pain, cyanosis, and foaming at the mouth caused by roundworms: Pinyin, ten catties, is finely chopped and boiled with one stone of water until it becomes a thick syrup. Remove the residue, and boil again to make it concentrated. Fasting on the previous night, consume it on an empty stomach, and all the worms will be expelled. (From "Yaoxing Lun")
5. Treatment of itching in the lower part of the body caused by roundworms in children: Take a handful of Pinyin leaves, cut them into pieces, boil them with one liter of water, remove the residue, and drink it on an empty stomach to expel the worms. 6. Treatment of anal itching or early-stage hemorrhoids: Take 100-150g of Pinyin, boil it into a soup, and use it for fumigation and washing while it is still hot. (From "Folk Herbs of Zhejiang")
7. Treatment of parotitis: Take 30g of fresh Pinyin, wash it, finely mash it, add an appropriate amount of slaked lime water, and then add egg white. Apply it to the affected area. ("Essence of Chinese Medicine")
8. Treatment of hydrocele: Take 30g of Pinyin and 30g of fresh Yi Ren, boil them in water, and consume it once a day. Each course of treatment lasts for 7 days. ("Zhejiang Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 1982;(8):")
9. Treatment of toothache: Take 50-100g of Pinyin (fresh or dried) and boil it in water, divided into two doses. ("Shaanxi Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 1986;7(11):28")
4. "Yao Xing Lun": Pinyin is used to treat inflammation and swelling of the eyes caused by cinnabar poisoning, and it also has an effect on treating hot swelling.
5. "Dian Nan Ben Cao": Pinyin is used to promote urination. It is used to treat cloudy and white urine, hot and painful urination, stagnant semen, and closure of the orifices. It also treats qi stagnation in women, gastric dampness and heat, and white discharge.
6. "Gang Mu": Treats cholera, jaundice, and promotes urination. 7. "Guizhou Folk Prescription Collection": Treats infantile malnutrition and edema.
8. "Jiangxi Chinese Medicine": Treats anal itching caused by damp heat. Mash it into a paste and apply it for 1-3 days to achieve healing.
9. Treatment of bacterial dysentery: Pinyin is prepared into a syrup, with 1g of raw herb per milliliter, and 50 milliliters are taken 2-3 times a day. 108 cases were treated, with 104 cases cured and 4 cases showing improvement. The average time for fever reduction was 1 day, abdominal pain disappeared in 4 days, diarrhea stopped and bowel movements returned to normal in 5 days, and no adverse reactions were observed during the medication. Another method is to take 200-300g of fresh Pinyin (100-200g dried), make it into a decoction and consume it at once, with 1 dose before and after breakfast and dinner. 25 cases were treated, and all were cured.
