【Pharmacological Effects of Da Wei Yao】
1. Anti-cancer effects:
The anti-cancer active components isolated from Da Wei Yao are Da Wei Yao alkaloid and Da Wei Yao alkaloid N-oxide. Da Wei Yao alkaloid has a 16-fold effectiveness against mouse leukemia P388.
2. Effects on smooth muscle:
The water extract of the root can increase the tension of the isolated rabbit duodenum, but has no significant effect on the isolated guinea pig ileum; the alcohol extract has inhibitory effects on both. Both the water and alcohol extracts have a oxytocin-like effect.
3. Other effects:
The water extract of the root can decrease blood pressure and cause respiratory stimulation when intravenously injected into anesthetized cats; it has an inhibitory effect on the isolated toad heart; the alcohol extract has no effect.
When Da Wei Yao alkaloid N-oxide is intravenously injected into dogs at a dose of 1500mg/kg, it increases heart rate, decreases left ventricular end-diastolic pressure and cardiac output, slightly decreases pulmonary vascular resistance, and slightly increases systemic vascular resistance.
The Tianjiecai alkaloid isolated from Da Wei Yao seeds has a nerve ganglion-blocking effect, but it was found that it has no depressant effect on the central nervous system or neuromuscular junction blockade effect, and does not shorten the sleep time induced by pentobarbital sodium in mice.
