Siniang Huang: The Dragons Spit Pearls of Traditional Chinese Medicine

We are all familiar with traditional Chinese medicine, but do you know about the herb "Siniang Huang"? Siniang Huang is the whole plant of the Primulaceae plant, Hailv. [Morphological Characteristics of Siniang Huang]

It is an annual or biennial herbaceous plant, without hair. The stems are clustered, branching, with four edges, 10-30cm tall, and slightly pale green and white. The leaves are opposite, sessile, and sheathed; leaf blades are ovate to narrowly ovate, 1-2.5cm long, 5-15mm wide, with a pointed or slightly blunt apex, rounded base, and entire margins, papery.

The flowers are solitary, axillary; flower stalks are 2-3cm long, without bracts; calyx lobes are 5, linear-lanceolate, 4-6mm long, sharp; corolla is radial, 4-6mm long, pale red, and the lobes are inverted ovate. The edges are entire or slightly serrated, with glandular marginal hairs; stamens are 5, with hairy filaments; ovary is superior, hairless, and the style is thread-like. The capsule is spherical, about 4mm in diameter. The seeds are dark brown, densely covered with wart-like protrusions. Flowering period is from March to May.

[Medicinal Uses of Siniang Huang]

Taste and nature: Sour and astringent, non-toxic.

Main functions and indications: It is used to treat snake bites or dog bites. The juice is taken internally and the residue is applied to the affected area. It is also used for treating ulcers and wind-damp conditions.

Dosage and administration: Internal use: Decoction, 3-5 qian (0.5-1 liang for fresh herbs), or crushed juice. External use: Crush and apply.

The method of consuming Siniang Huang is to boil the herb, remove the residue, and drink the juice. The daily dosage is 3-5 qian (0.5-1 liang for fresh herbs), or crushed juice. For external use, crush the herb and apply it to the affected area.
