Xianhecao, a traditional Chinese medicine, is a herb of the Rosaceae family. It is also known as Tuo Li Cao, Gua Xiang Cao, Lao Niu Jin, and Lang Ya Cao. Let's learn about the efficacy and functions of Xianhecao!
Can Xianhecao be consumed by steeping in water?
Xianhecao has the effects of stopping bleeding, invigorating the stomach, lubricating the intestines, stopping diarrhea, and killing parasites.
Drinking the steeped water or the decoction has the same effect. Soaking 3 spoons of dried Xianhecao in hot water for 10-15 minutes can improve diarrhea.
Using the cooled soaking liquid to wipe the skin can reduce skin irritation. Rinsing the mouth with warm soaking liquid can alleviate mouth irritation and sore throat.
Xianhecao can strengthen the body, replenish deficiencies, and has good therapeutic effects on fatigue, pale complexion, spontaneous sweating, palpitations, and other symptoms of deficiency, hence the name "Tuo Li Cao" (Herb for Relieving Fatigue).
In Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, Xianhecao is often cooked with red dates in traditional households to tonify Qi and blood and treat fatigue caused by overwork.
Medicinal properties of Xianhecao
1. Tonify deficiencies
There is a simple folk remedy, which is to decoct Xianhecao and Chinese dates and consume the soup. This remedy can help restore physical strength and reduce overall fatigue.
2. Stop diarrhea
Xianhecao is used to treat common dysentery or diarrhea. Its astringent nature can stop diarrhea by constricting the intestines. It is often used for deficiency-type diarrhea or dysentery.
3. Detoxify
As Xianhecao is not strongly astringent, it does not strictly differentiate between deficiency and excess syndromes. For dysentery or diarrhea, as long as the choice of herbs is flexible, it can be effective.
4. Kill parasites
Xianhecao is mainly used to kill Trichomonas vaginalis, which is friendly to female friends. It can be used to treat trichomonas vaginitis in women.
Precautions for using Xianhecao
1. Do not use if there is no excessive bleeding.
2. Allergic reactions may include chest tightness, shortness of breath, palpitations, restlessness, dizziness, profuse sweating, pale complexion, cold limbs, chills, and decreased blood pressure.
Severe cases may also have dizziness, flushed face, profuse sweating, toxic optic neuropathy leading to blindness, abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, flushed face, and decreased blood pressure.
Xianhecao is a strong hemostatic medicine with effects of strengthening the heart, raising blood pressure, promoting blood coagulation, stopping bleeding, cooling the blood, and inhibiting bacteria. It does not have the effect of lowering blood glucose, so it is not recommended to use it solely to lower blood sugar.
