Gang Ban Gui is a perennial herb. The stem is angular and reddish-brown, with downward-pointing hooks.
The leaves are opposite and shield-shaped. The leaf blade is nearly triangular, 4-6cm long and 5-8cm wide, with a pointed tip and a near heart-shaped or truncate base. The lower surface of the leaves has scattered hooks along the veins. The leaf sheath is nearly circular and clasping the stem. The leaf stalk is long and sparsely covered with downward hooks.
The inflorescence is short and spike-like. The bracts are round. The corolla is deeply 5-lobed, pale red or white, and enlarges and becomes fleshy and deep blue when fruiting. There are 8 stamens and the style is 3-lobed.
The fruit is spherical and enclosed in the juicy blue perianth. The flowering period is from June to August, and the fruiting period is from September to October.

1. Treatment of pertussis
Take 1 liang of Gang Ban Gui (reduce for infants), fry it with white wine, and then decoct it with rock sugar water. Take it twice a day. Alternatively, add 1 liang of Houttuynia cordata and 3 qian of one yellow flower, and decoct it for consumption.
Treat 26 cases with Gang Ban Gui alone. There were significant effects in 19 cases, effective in 5 cases, and ineffective in 2 cases. Treat 2 cases with the addition of Houttuynia cordata and one yellow flower, and both were cured.
Another method is to fry 1 liang of Gang Ban Gui, add sweet wine and rock sugar to make tea, and treat 7 cases of spasmodic cough with 2 doses of medication, which resulted in a reduction in cough and quiet sleep at night. After 4-6 doses, all symptoms disappeared.
2. Treatment of eczema
Prepare an injection solution using Gang Ban Gui, with 2 grams of raw herbs per milliliter. Inject 3 milliliters into the muscles, 1-2 times a day, reducing the dosage for children. Treat 60 cases, all of which showed certain effects.
