Tetanus is caused by wounds, resulting in stiffness and spasms in the neck, limbs, arching of the back, and clenched teeth, among other symptoms.
Symptoms of Tetanus
1. Incubation Period
The length varies, often depending on factors such as whether or not the person has received preventive injections, the nature and location of the injury, and how the wound was treated.
Usually 7-8 days, but it can be as short as 24 hours or as long as several months or years.
2. Prodromal Period
Fatigue, dizziness, headache, difficulty chewing, increased reflexes, restlessness, local pain, muscle tension, spasms and stiffness, tightness of the jaw, difficulty opening the mouth.
3. Paroxysmal Period
Muscles continuously contract. Initially, it affects the chewing muscles, then progresses to the facial muscles, neck, back, abdomen, limbs, and finally the diaphragm and intercostal muscles.

4. Spasms can be triggered by sound, light, vibrations, drinking water, or injections. The patient remains conscious and their sensations are normal. Generally, there is no high fever.
Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment for Tetanus
Bai Fu Zi is used in combination with Bai Zhi, Tian Nan Xing, Tian Ma, Qiang Huo, Fang Feng, Chan Yi, Quan Xie, Yu Gong, and Gou Teng, among others.
Methods of Preventing Tetanus
1. Properly Treat Wounds
For minor wounds, rinse the outside of the wound with tap water or well water. If possible, apply iodine or other disinfectant to the wound;
Cover the wound with a clean cloth and gently bandage it before seeking further treatment at a hospital.
For larger wounds, apply pressure with a clean cloth and promptly seek medical treatment.
2. Receive Tetanus Shots
Tetanus antitoxin is a preparation made from immunized horse serum using tetanus toxin. It is used for the treatment and prevention of tetanus.
