【Identification】
The stem of this herb is cylindrical, with a diameter of 0.3-1.5cm. The surface is gray-green to green-brown, hard and brittle. The stem has multiple longitudinal ridges, and the ridges are covered with yellow-brown to rust-colored short hairs. The outer layer of the stem is hard and woody. The pith is wide and white, spongy in appearance, slightly shiny, with scattered brown-red spots, more on the outer side of the pith. The odd-pinnate compound leaves are opposite, with short stalks, green-brown to dark green in color, covered with short hairs. The leaflets are often wrinkled and broken, but when fully expanded, they are lanceolate in shape, 5-15cm long and 2-4cm wide, with serrated edges. Flowers are occasionally seen, with small, pale yellow or white flowers in a corymb inflorescence. It has a slight fragrant smell and a mild, slightly astringent taste. The color of the stem surface, longitudinal ridges and hair covering, wide pith, and scattered brown-red spots are the most distinctive identification characteristics.
