What does Shuo Zhi look like

Shuo Zhi belongs to the honeysuckle family and is a tall herb or semi-shrub that can reach a height of 2 meters. The stem has ridges, and the leaf-like or sometimes blue glandular leaf-like stipules;

The small leaflets are alternate or opposite, narrowly ovate, with a gradually pointed apex, a bluntly rounded base, unequal on both sides, with fine serrations on the edges, no stipules, and the compound umbel inflorescence is terminal, large and sparse. The peduncle of the inflorescence is supported by leaf-like involucral bracts, slender, and the fertile flowers are small;

The calyx tube is cup-shaped, with triangular calyx teeth; the corolla is white, and the anthers are yellow or purple; the fruit is red, nearly spherical, with small wart-like protrusions on the surface. It flowers from April to May and fruits from August to September.


Medicinal uses of Shuo Zhi

(1) This plant is used as a medicinal herb and can be used to treat bruises and injuries. It has the effects of dispelling wind and dampness, promoting blood circulation, and detoxifying and reducing inflammation.

(2) It can dispel wind and dampness, promote blood circulation, and stop bleeding. It is mainly used for rheumatism, gout, large joint diseases, acute and chronic nephritis, rubella, bruises, fractures, and bleeding from external injuries.

Medicinal formulas containing Shuo Zhi

1. Treatment for abnormal vaginal discharge in women: Take fresh Shuo Zhi roots, three to five times each time. Stew and take together with pig intestines, and take it three to five times.

2. Treatment for nephritis edema, foot swelling: Take four to eight qian of Shuo Zhi whole plant. Decoct and take.

3. Treatment for bruises, fractures and pain: Take six qian of Shuo Zhi roots. Decoct with equal amounts of wine and water, filter out the residue, add one liang of white sugar, stir and take.

4. Treatment for rheumatoid arthritis, chronic lower back and leg pain, acute sprains and hematomas, and edema: Take five qian to one yin of Xue Man Cao. Decoct and take or use the decoction to wash the affected area.
