Taibaihua is a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine for regulating menstruation and stopping bleeding. What is Taibaihua?

Taibaihua is the branch-like structure of the plant Paris polyphylla var. yunnanensis. It has the effects of soothing the liver, tonifying the yang, regulating menstruation, and stopping bleeding. It is used for dizziness, hypertension, migraine, epistaxis, menorrhagia, menstrual disorders, and leukorrhea.

Ecological environment: It grows on the surface of dry rocks in high mountain areas, on the leaf litter of sandy soil, and in moss clusters under shrubs.

Distribution of resources: It is distributed in Heilongjiang, Jilin, Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Gansu, Xinjiang, Yunnan, and other places.

Identification of characteristics: The thallus is cylindrical, 5-8cm long, with dense branching and small perforations in the branch axils. The upper half is yellow-green, the lower half is gray-white, and the base gradually decays. The apothecia are top-grown, brown, slightly hard when dry, brittle when wet, and spongy.


Usage of Taibaihua

1. For treating migraine, leukorrhea, dizziness, and asthenia: Take two taels of Taibaihua and stew with pig trotters or black-bone chicken meat for consumption.

2. For treating leukorrhea: Take four to five taels of Taibaihua and mix them with flour to make steamed buns, which should be consumed within 3-4 days.

3. For treating hypertension and dizziness: Take five qian each of Taibaihua, Zhulingcao, Yangjiaocan, and Xiaoyunjitou, and eight qian of Xiakucao. Boil them in water and add rock sugar for consumption.

4. For treating epistaxis: Take one tael of Taibaihua and soak it in infant feces with white sugar, and drink it as tea.
