It is the immature fruit of the rose family plant peach or mountain peach. It is harvested from April to June. The immature fruits are picked and dried. It is mainly produced in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, and other places.
Appearance:
The dried immature fruit has a rectangular or oval shape, measuring 1.8 to 3 centimeters in length, 1.5 to 2 centimeters in diameter, and 0.9 to 1.5 centimeters in thickness. The tip is gradually pointed and has a dark brown appearance resembling a beak. The base is asymmetric and some have a few reddish-brown stalks. The surface is yellow-green with a network of wrinkled texture and covered with short soft hair. The inner fruit skin has prominent ventral sutures and indistinct dorsal sutures. It is solid and not easily broken. It has a faint smell and a slightly sour and astringent taste. Dried, large, firm, and yellow-green fruits are preferred.
Processing: Remove the hairs on the fruit skin and dry it.
Taste: Sour and bitter, neutral.
Meridians: It enters the Hand and Foot Jue Yin meridians.
Functions and Indications: It is used to treat night sweats, nocturnal emission, vomiting blood, malaria, abdominal pain, and bleeding during pregnancy.
Dosage: Internally, it can be decocted in 1.5 to 3 qian (4.5 to 9 grams), or made into pills or powder. Externally, it can be ground into powder and applied topically or used for fumigation.
Prescriptions: ① For unremitting night sweats: One dried peach kernel, two frost plums, seven onion roots, two wicks, one qian (3 grams) of tangerine peel, a pinch of rice roots and barley malt. Boil in two bowls of water and take as a decoction. (Experiential Prescription)
Notes: In the Jiangsu region, dried peach kernel with a hardened pit is called "Bie Tao Gan", while dried peach kernel with an unhardened pit is called "Bie Tao Nu".
