Bamboo Leaf Ginseng: Traditional Chinese Medicine for Healing and Pain Relief

Bamboo leaf ginseng has the effects of clearing heat, detoxifying, and promoting blood circulation. It is mainly used to treat high fever that does not subside, exhaustion, bone steaming heat, rheumatism, joint and lower back pain, dysmenorrhea, excessive menstrual bleeding, abscesses, boils, bruises, and fractures.

① "Shaanxi Herbal Medicine": "Nourishes yin, replenishes deficiency, dispels wind and dampness, activates collaterals, and relieves pain. It is used to treat exhaustion, bone steaming heat, pulmonary tuberculosis, palpitations, shortness of breath, rheumatic lower back and leg pain, and sciatica."

② "Yunnan Herbal Medicine": "Promotes bone healing, stops bleeding, reduces inflammation, and relieves pain, dispelling wind and removing dampness."

③ "Jiangxi Herbal Medicine": "Dispels wind, clears heat, relaxes tendons, and promotes blood circulation."

Usage of Bamboo Leaf Ginseng: Internal use: decoction, 3-5 qian (9-15 grams), or soaked in alcohol, stewed with chicken, or ground into powder. External use: apply crushed bamboo leaf ginseng to the affected area.

Bamboo leaf ginseng has dried rhizomes that are flat and cylindrical, measuring 5-10mm in length and approximately 5mm in diameter. The lower part of the rhizomes has many fine roots. The roots of bamboo leaf ginseng are cylindrical and slightly twisted, measuring 4-10mm in length and 1-2mm in diameter. The surface is yellow-brown with fine longitudinal lines.

It is hard and brittle, with a yellow-white color in the bark and a light brown color in the wood. Bamboo leaf ginseng has a slight aroma, sweet taste, and a hint of spiciness. Thick, yellow-brown roots are considered the best, and they are also used as a delicacy known as "Bai Wei Sun" in Guizhou province.

Applications of Bamboo Leaf Ginseng:

1. Treatment for paralysis in hands and feet: 60g of mountain bamboo flower root, 1 egg. Stew with water and consume the soup with the egg.

2. Treatment for rheumatic pain: 18g of mountain bamboo flower root, 15g of Honghaier root, 9g each of madder root, da xueteng root, and tiger thorn root. Soak in 500ml of white wine for 7 days, take 15-60ml each time, once in the morning and once in the evening.

3. Treatment for lower back pain: appropriate amount of mountain bamboo flower root. Grind into powder, take 6g each time, mix with water or wine, once in the morning and once in the evening. (These three prescriptions are from "Jiangxi Herbal Medicine").

4. Treatment for exhaustion and bone steaming heat: 60g of bamboo leaf ginseng, 30g each of white ginseng, polygonatum, and xixin, stew with pork. (From "Shaanxi Herbal Medicine").
